ABOUT BRONZE

The art of bronze casting is at least six thousand years old and many of the techniques that were developed then are still utilised in today’s foundries.
Bronze is made from a mixture of copper and tin and is a valuable metal for use by the artist as it can be relatively easily worked and can take many beautiful colours and patinations. Bronze Sculpture will last for many hundreds of years in perfect condition.
Sydney Charles sculpture are made using the “lost wax” method of bronze casting, so called because during the process the wax sculpture is melted out of the mold.
Once cast the sculpture is then coloured by hand, using a process called patination. A great variety of colours can be achieved through the use of different chemicals and carefully applied heat
After patination, the sculpture is protected with a coating of wax. If kept indoors your solid bronze sculpture will not ever need to be polished, simply dusted when required to preserve the beauty of the surface.
